I went over about 5:30 and found the owlets in two different nearby pine trees and the adults in two other pines, keeping watch. One definitely looks older/bigger than the other one. I won't be able to go tomorrow until late afternoon. I bet they miss the closeness of being in the nest next to each other. The one looks a little bit scared or ( Read more... )

Before time gets away too much, I wanted to post a few more pictures of the Great Horned Owls. These were taken February 8. I haven’t been down to see them since that time, so I’m sure the little owlet is not so little anymore. I need to get back down there soon before he flies!

I finally got to see the baby Great Horned Owl. When I first arrived around 3:30, only the baby was in the nest. The nest is in shadows a lot of the time, but the wind was blowing so much today that the pines were whipping around and letting little dapples of sunlight through every once in a while.
